SECOND WIND

Old nerves twitching
Use to the gnawing jaw we’ve made of life
I gain grasp of the mouth
Where it seeds it’s means into me
I rip it away from me
Is this an epiphany or a curse in my mind?
To choose the latter
Allows me to leave far too much behind

So it’s back to the march
Trying to believe hope is not stillborn
With all my uncertainty
Trying to look past these chameleons

A second wind is coming
I try to hold on to convictions in bloom of malignance
They shake, I shutter with stuttered breath
Revolutions breached our bones
We’re soon to meet home one way or another
But you can’t give up the reigns
If you think this is a dream, hold on
We are tired and we’re weary
But fresh eyes aren’t promised when life capsizes
And if oblivion or nirvana makes it more so worthless
You’re burying your sons
Your daughters are being burnt
By rapacious men with emptying eyes
Are you as barren as them or do you
Replenish drying hearts for bleeding minds?
Break down constructs of cruelty
No longer grease our gears with poison tradition
No more joining hands just to break our wrists
We were born fighting sons with knuckles white
Vacant eyes, clouded mind
Dice in our cynic hands weighed by motives not ours
Cling to life for your excepting mother’s eyes
Cling for we’ll still reach nowhere just the same
